Happy France day 33

This is for now the last day in France, the last view from the hill in Lauzerte, tonight we will be back home.

It was a wonderful adventure. To discover the surroundings here, catch the moods in paint, and exhibit in the mediatheque. To meet so many friendly people here in Lauzerte and also you who followed the whole project by mail.

Thank you for accompanying me on this trip. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and wish we meet again!
Au revoir.

Because I'm still in France there is also an extra painting. This one could come 'From The Market' and it fits that series just right. Although it's still growing in Emilie's kitchen garden.

Red onion, from the market, ran away from the previous painting with fresh garlic. She felt that she had deserved her own place. And I agree with her.

Did you look for Bertje on painting 19?
Well here he is up close. This little rascal ran away a few days ago and came back late in the night, totally exhausted. It took him two days to come to his senses, but here he is, all fit again.

Happy France Day 20

Happy Easter Today!

I had painted a really dull landscape on a rainy day earlier this month. But as a background for this white wysteria (witte regen)it is perfect.

Happy France Day 18

This morning I was eating my yoghurt after my run together with the dogs, when suddenly my eye fell on the purple Irises.
Of course I saw them previously, and noticed their beauty.

But today, the sun fell on them in just the right way, they were just enough opened, and I just could not resist.

It's so great, it feels as if I never have to go and look for a subject to paint here, they simply present themselves. And because the light changes so quickly I have to work fast and intense to capture what I feel is the essence of that moment.

Happy France Day 15

Every evening there is a free concert outside. It's the frog ensemble giving their best kwhoaks and kwhaks. To gain the most handsome partner I assume.

When I stopped by to make a painting of their habitat, and have a closer look at them, they were suddenly silent. When it was to dark to see and paint they started all over, even more enthusiastic. So now I still did not meet with them, but they made it into the title anyhow.

May Turnip- Le navet -(meiknolletje) is a root vegetable. You don't find them in the regular supermarket in the Netherlands but they are very common in France. Navets are very tasty in a salad or in thin slices, together with thin slices of courgette. Dress them up with fresh herbs, like thyme and a lemonvinaigrette.
Or use them for a still life...

Happy France Day 13

At first impression Isa seems a bit shy and timid, maybe even insecure. And she is all that, but even more so, she is a doglady with class and style, almost aristocratic.

Then you meet with her in the open fields, she turns out to be a real mad doggygirl also. Like a cow on her first meadowday,
I love Isa.

When you look up from under a tree you can get the most beautiful patterns of leafs and branches. I've made a number of paintings like that in the happy-mini-mail project. But now with the blossoms on some trees it's really a feast for the eye.

Happy France Day 09

There once was a godess Iris who, according to greek mythology, brought messages from gods to humans. She used the rainbow to climb down to earth. And the wind helped her further on her journey by blowing under her wings.

The petals of the Iris resemble wings and that's why it's said that the symbolic meaning of an Iris is: 'I have a message for you' The name Iris stands for being cheery and forgiving.

So I hope this painting of Irises brings you a good start of your day.

This is the pigeonnier Villebourgon. It's a perfect place in which I'm living during my 'artist in residence stay' in France. In this area of Lauzerte there are more dovecotes. Before the french revolution it was only held for 'Les Seigneurs' to have a dovecote. After 1789 everybody could build one.

If you would like to have a lovely holiday in this pigeonnier in Tarn-et-Garonne look on the website gites.eu for information or look HERE

Happy France day 05

While cruising the area, looking for paintable spots, there it was. The most strange colour combination, just surreal. Like a scene from a science fiction movie. It's in the neighbourhood of Montlauzun. A minty green lake surrounded by reddish pink orangy fields. I think it's called sorrel, the plant with this special colour, but it might also be something completely different. Maybe you have a clue?
